On Thursday of last week I was cycling home from the store and my chain jumped the cog, and jammed up, breaking it and the de-railer on my bike. I also hurt my knee and body in the process. Was I ticked, but kept my head up. Rested my leg for a few days and I am back to it.
Thing is, my old highschool friend now turned amateur body builder, sent me this message via facebook after she heard that I had done this and we were conversing a bit.

“Good job! So that sucks about the accident. I believe everything happens for a reason, even the seemingly negative. More often than not a really big positive results from an equally negative problem, as I am sure you understand. Seeing it is the tricky partSome some good news for you:I don’t know if you have noticed or not but you have been at this for roughly 18 weeks. That in itself is incredible, and I mean incredible. People on TV who do radical weight loss shows are almost forced into sticking with it because they have a nation to keep them accountable. That level of accountability ups motivation, trust me. But you are doing this just for yourself with only the support of friends and active support from your family.People stop their new lifestyle choices around the third week and most by week 5. Only a small percentage of people who have a significant amount of weight to lose stick with it. Why? Well you know why. Its f*****g hard that’s why. (lol)So good for you, Jewels. Even in the face of a broken bike you have accomplished greatness! Whoo Hoo! You are now in a small percentage of women who stick it out. Who give the extra push. Women who don’t quit! Women who sweat and train and eat clean.Healthy, strong, smart and sexy women.Weight loss is empowering. You will see, it gets much better! Hope the banged up knee heals fast and that you find enjoyment in the rest.

This message brought tears to my eyes.. 18 weeks!!! WOW… I have never stuck to anything like this before in this way. Sure I have skipped tracking food and fitness on Sparkpeople here and there, but I still ate healthy on those days. Sure there were days I didn’t do as much exercise as my plan says I am supposed to, but I got back to it. There have been a number of weeks in there I have had medical issues that I feel set me back weeks of work. But you know what…. in 18 weeks the results speak for themselves.17lbs lighter 11 or so inches smaller Blood pressure is now below optimal for my age group. Fibromyalgia is basically gone Arthritis is hardly there. My flexibility is much more than before (yoga twice a week) Stamina and Energy abounds much more than before. I can walk 5 km or more at a time and not tire. I can ride my pedal bike without getting jello legs and huffing and puffing. My sleep is much improved. My depression and anxiety has reduced dramatically. I am in a D cup bra I went from a size 24 jeans to a size 18 now. My “adult” life has dramatically improved! (he can’t keep up with me now!)Between Spark People, my friend Bev, family and friends, I have made it this far, and shall continue to move forward.Looking forward to another 18 weeks !!!Thank you everyone!
