SPROUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do so love my sprouts, and considering just how flavourful they are, fresh green food right from your kitchen, or where ever you put them, that are around 15 times more nutritious for you than the seed/bean you sprouted them from, and a plethora of other reasons too, it just makes economical sense to do it.

So, I have been experimenting with mine, bought a few different varieties, red clover, alfalfa, brassica mix, fitness mix and a detox mix, and I love them all. I have a Biosta sprouter that is made in Canada. I bought it from a health food store, came with the water collector, 3 trays, the syphons and a  lid. I ordered from the company the extra trays you see in my photo. Well worth the investment.  There are of course other ways to sprout, from cloth bags, glass jars and baking trays with tea towels on them, you don't have to buy something like this, however I like the stacking and the way it works.

I have on the odd occasion, usually when warm in the kitchen for any duration of time, mold issues, however, I have to admit, that goes hand in hand with my forgetting to put water in the top tray and empty the bottom collecting one. So it's my own fault. When I clean mine, I use hot soapy water, and borax or bleach (yucky I know but....) to sanitize. They are dishwasher safe if I recall correctly (google that first please) but alas, I do not own one of those but you could sanitize that way too (I'm thinking about getting one now as we get even busier with life the universe and everything).  You also need a good stiff brush to get it clean between the grooves in the trays, and you are set to go.

So what do I do with my sprouts, so far I just rinse them off, fluff them up and store them mixed in the fridge, we  use them for salads, just snacking on, I do toss some in various meals too, and I even juiced two handfuls of sprouts this morning infact. They don't produce much juice, but then again, they are tiny!
